In recent days, the Regional Command West (RC-W) organised the charity race 'Race For The Cure' in the municipality of Pejë/Pec, Kosovo. The event, to support breast cancer research and treatmentwas attended by NATO military personnel, teachers and students from theHaxhi Zeka University. The 5 km non-competitive race, held within the Municipality of Pejё/Pec, was attended by the Commander of RC-W, Colonel Francesco Ferrara, of theItalian Ambassador for Kosovo, Antonello De Riu and the representative of local institutions, the councillor for culture, sports and youth, Ms Xhenet Syka.
The competition represents yet another initiative of the Colonel Francesco Ferraraknown for his attention to relations between the Italian military and the local population, with a special focus on the problems of the Kosovar community.
At the end of the race, the municipality of Pejë/Pec unveiled a monument commemorating 25 years of Italian military presence in Kosovo. The ceremony was held at the current Dukagjini Hotel, former headquarters of the Italian-led Multinational Brigade West. The monument symbolises the bond between the local community and the Italian military who, over the years, have contributed to maintaining peace and security in the region.
The Mayor of Cosenza, Dr Franz Carusosent a message of thanks to the Italian contingent and the Kosovar authorities, emphasising the basis for future cooperation between the territories, highlighting the importance of the work carried out by the 1st Regiment Bersaglieri and a concrete commitment to promoting cooperation between the two countries:
The first citizen of Cosenza stated: "There is a commitment and a concrete will to go beyond formalisms and protocols to go, instead, to a direct confrontation on what are the peculiarities and possibilities that our different territories can put together, in synergy, to create cooperation between the two countries and between our cities. Today, the Bersaglieri Regiment concretely embodies these intentions with their mission activity for Peace and the Future".
The Italian contingent of the Kosovo Force (KFOR)in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999contributes to the maintenance of a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all communities living in Kosovo, while promoting charitable activities under the direction of the Interforce Summit Operations Command.
