Still violence against law enforcement: a Italian Army soldier and a Carabiniere were injured during an operation in the Bolognina district, where a citizen of Moroccan origin was caught while trying to steal from two parked cars.

The fact happened in Vincenzo's Street, where a passerby noticed a suspicious individual intent on breaking the windows of two cars – a Peugeot and a Citroën – and immediately alerted the police. The man, described as an individual with olive skin, black jeans and short hair, was intercepted red-handed by a patrol of the Carabinieri in collaboration with the military of the Italian Army, engaged in the operation “Strade Sicure".

At the sight of the military, the subject reacted with extreme violence, hitting the officers with kicks and punches in an attempt to escape. Blocked and searched, he was found in possession of a modified magnet with sharp edges, used to break car windows.

During transport to the barracks, the man – a 37 years old, homeless and already known to the police – continued to throw a tantrum inside the mobile station of the force, hurling insults and launching further attacks against the military.

Following the attack, a Carabiniere and an Army soldier suffered injuries to their upper and lower limbs, with a prognosis of seven days each.

Attacker already free: the debate on precautionary measures returns

The subject was arrested on charges of resisting a public official, attempted aggravated theft and personal injury. Although the arrest was validated at the direct hearing, the 37-year-old is already released, with the only ban on residence in the metropolitan city of Bologna, awaiting trial, adjourned due to request for terms for defense.

A decision that rekindles the debate on urban security, on the effectiveness of precautionary measures and on the role of joint patrols between the Army and the Carabinieri, who are committed every day to ensuring public order. The episode raises once again the question of protection of uniformed operators, too often left alone in front of violent and repeat offenders.

USMIA Solidarity

Following the incident, theUSMIA (Interforces Military Union of Associates) he expressed in a note on their website the full solidarity to the Carabiniere and the Army soldier involved in the operation.

“We are deeply close to our injured colleagues and their families in this difficult time”, declared the USMIA National Secretariat, emphasizing the readiness and courage demonstrated by the two soldiers, both registered with the trade union.

USMIA also praised theeffectiveness of the joint intervention, recognizing the success of the action as the result of the synergy between Law enforcement and army departments. The note goes on to underline the importance of the continuous training, with particular reference to training in MCM (Military Combat Method) techniques, essential for operating in high-risk situations such as the one that occurred in Bologna.

“This is a tangible sign of the widespread presence of our organization among those who, every day, carry out their duty on the front lines.”

Finally, USMIA reiterated its commitment to support injured colleagues and their families, renewing our thanks to all the military personnel who work hard every day for the security of the nation.

ASPMI: “Safe Roads must be rethought, now”

After USMIA, also ASPMI (Military Professionals Union Association) he expressed closeness to the two wounded soldiers in Bologna, stressing the urgent need to review the entire system of theOperation Safe Streets. It is read in the note released by the Association:

"As ASPMI we would like to express our solidarity with the Italian Army soldier and the Carabiniere who were injured during an intervention in the Bolognina district of Bologna. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go to their colleagues and their families, and our heartfelt thanks for the courage they have shown. They have operated with professionalism in a high-risk context, confirming the value of those who serve the State every day".

ASPMI highlights the Structural criticalities of the Safe Roads Operation, born as an emergency measure and today transformed into a systematic and no longer sustainable use. The Association also denounces the use of the military in duties of the Police Forces, without adequate ftraining, legal protection and economic valorization.

ASPMI He also posted a video on his own YouTube channel to raise public awareness oneffectiveness and the Sustainability of the “Safe Roads” Operation, focusing in particular on the legal status of soldiers employees on the national territory.
