In recent days, the Gold Medal for Military Valour Gianfranco Paglia visited the Italian contingent engaged in the KFOR mission in Kosovo, an important opportunity to reaffirm the strong link between the Italian Armed Forces and national institutions. The visit was part of the celebrations for Italian Army Day, offering a unique opportunity to express gratitude to the Italian military operating in difficult international theatres.

Arriving in Pristina, Paglia reached the Regional Command West (RC-W) headquarters at Camp Villaggio Italia. Here he met the RC-W Commander, signed the Roll of Honour and paid homage to the War Flag. The gesture had a strong symbolic meaning, underlining the importance of the mission. Another important moment was the meeting with the Italian personnel, to whom he addressed words of encouragement and appreciation for their daily commitment and courage.

A Link Between Military Mission and Civilian Initiatives

The visit was not limited to official meetings, but also included moments of connecting with the local culture and community. Paglia visited the Visoki Dečani monastery, a UNESCO heritage site, and participated in a donation ceremony organised by the Lions Club of Pistoia in Ljutoglava. This initiative strengthened the link between the Italian mission and civil activities, confirming the role of the Armed Forces not only as guarantors of security, but also as protagonists of solidarity initiatives.

In addition, the Gold Medalist visited the 'Haxhi Zeka' University of Pejë, where he met students and academics. During the meeting, he shared his experience and discussed the value of service and dedication to duty, central themes that reflect the high spirit of sacrifice that characterises Italian soldiers on international missions.

Army Day and Celebration of Military Valour

The day ended with the national flag-raising ceremony and the celebration of Army Day at Camp Villaggio Italia, in the presence of the entire Italian contingent. This moment represented an opportunity to renew the support and gratitude of Italian institutions towards the military, who contribute every day to stability and security in Kosovo and other international missions.

Division General Giovanni Barduani, Commander of KFOR, also spoke on the occasion, emphasising the importance of teamwork and the dedication of every single soldier. Paglia's visit thus also had a strong institutional component, confirming that a sense of responsibility and belonging is essential for the success of missions abroad, a commitment that unites the Italian Armed Forces and civil society, for the benefit of peace and global security.
