During the 74th edition of the Sanremo Italian Song Festival, the Italian Army played a significant role, testifying to its commitment not only to the defence and security of the country but also to contributing to national culture and spirit. This year, the Army's presence stood out through two representative entities: Radio Esercito and the Banda dell'Esercito, both committed to building bridges with the Italian public, strengthening the sense of community and national identity.
Army Radio: A Voice for Citizens
Throughout the Festival, Radio Esercito broadcast live from Casa Sanremo, offering listeners the unique opportunity to experience the event from a different perspective. Through interviews and in-depth reports, the radio station's speakers and technicians recounted the emotions, stories and experiences of the singers and guests present, underlining the Army's desire to be ever closer to the citizens, sharing with them moments of culture and entertainment.
The Army Band: a symbol of unity and national identity
The highlight of the Army's participation in the Festival was marked by the performance of the Army Band on the final evening. The performance began with a performance of the National Anthem of the Italian Republic, 'Il Canto degli Italiani', a moment of deep emotion and national unity. The performance not only paid homage to Italy's cultural heritage, but also symbolised the shared commitment to a united and free Italy. The presence of the Band, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, reaffirms the value of music as a universal language capable of uniting and inspiring.
A Continuous Commitment to Culture and Society
The Army's participation in the Sanremo Festival is part of a broader context of commitment to the promotion of culture and participation in the civic life of the country. The Army Band, with its 102 elements, and Radio Esercito, the national web radio launched in 2019, are expressions of this commitment, through which the Armed Forces demonstrate that they do not limit themselves to territorial defence alone but actively contribute to the social and cultural fabric of Italy.
The initiative highlights the importance of the closeness between the Army and citizens, through the sharing of moments of high symbolic and cultural value. A powerful message that underlines how the Armed Forces, in addition to their defence mission, are a fundamental pillar in building a sense of belonging and national identity, through music, culture and communication.
