Pisa, safety measures for the Arno flood, the Folgore installs bulkheads and closes bridges
Following the weather alert and therising Arno river levelIn Pisa, the local authorities have ordered the assembly of bulkheads along the river banks to contain possible flooding. The operation, carried out by Italian Army personnel, made it necessary to temporarily close the Lungarni to vehicular traffic to allow the metal barriers to be positioned.
Dozens of military Folgore Parachute Brigade were deployed in operations to install so-called 'panconcelli' on the riverbanks in the historic centre of Pisa. The intervention was necessary to cope with the expected flood in the evening and reduce the risk of flooding.
All city bridges were closed to traffic, with the exception of the Bocchette Bridgewhich was kept operational to guarantee the emergency road system. The local authorities, in cooperation with the Civil Protection and the police, are monitoring the situation in order to take any additional measures.
The ongoing operations are part of the broader hydrogeological risk prevention plan, which involves both the armed forces and Civil Protection volunteers. The city of Pisa and the province remain under close observation, with particular concern for the areas close to the river.
As a precautionary measure, the closure of schools and universities has been ordered for tomorrow, pending further updates. Citizens are urged to follow official announcements and to respect the instructions of the authorities to ensure the safety of the population.
The Army released a video showing the Folgore Paratroopers in action, once again testifying to their commitment and operational readiness in the service of the country.
