At the 'Rugiadi' barracks in Livorno, the Parachutist Lieutenant Colonel Davide Piantanida handed over leadership of the 184th Parachute Command and Tactical Support Unit (RCST) 'Nembo' to Parachutist Lieutenant Colonel Mirko Antonio De Mitri. Present at the ceremony were the Commander of Parachute Brigade 'Folgore, Brigadier General Federico Bernaccalocal military and civil authorities and representatives of the Combatant and Armed Forces Associations.
During his year of command, Lieutenant Colonel Piantanida led the 184th RCST in a series of operational missions in Italy and abroad. These included the international operations 'Miasit' in Libya, 'Eutm' in Somalia, 'Misin' in Niger and 'Forward Land Forces' in Hungary. At national level, the Department contributed to the security of the cities of Livorno and Rome through Operation 'Strade Sicure'.
2024 was a year of great recognition for the 184th RCST, which received honorary citizenship from the municipalities of Filottrano in the Marche region and Oppido Mamertina in Calabria. These honorary citizenships are a tribute to the heroic deeds of the 184th Infantry Regiment 'Nembo' during World War II, in which its men distinguished themselves through courage and dedication.
In his farewell speech, Lieutenant Colonel Piantanida thanked all the personnel of the Department for their commitment and determination, recognising the importance of each one's contribution in overcoming the operational and training challenges faced. He highlighted how, in times of difficulty, the best qualities of the Paratroopers and their dedication to the Department and to Italy emerge.
The 184TH RCST 'Nembo' is a crucial unit within the 'Folgore' Parachute Brigade. Thanks to its technical expertise in the field of transmission and operational support, the Unit is an integral part of the Italian Army's ability to promptly respond to emergency situations and operate in complex contexts.
