Change of leadership for the KFOR mission, the 183rd Parachute Regiment Nembo takes command of Regional Command West
The handover ceremony between the 62nd Infantry Regiment “Sicilia” and the 183rd Parachute Regiment “Nembo”as the unit leading the Regional Command West of the KFOR mission.
The event, chaired by Lieutenant General Enrico Barduani, Mission Commander KFOR, saw the participation of numerous civil and military authorities, including theHonourable Paola Maria Chiesa, Member of the IV Defence Commission and of the Parliamentary Commission for Simplification, theItalian Ambassador to Kosovo Antonello De Riu and the Division General Nicola Piasente, Head of the Planning and Exercise Department of the Interforce Summit Operations Command (COVI).
In his speech, General Barduani expressed his appreciation for the work of the 62nd Regiment personnel, emphasising the value and professionalism with which they represented the Italian contribution to the NATO mission. “Your work reflects the excellence and dedication that characterizes our country. Your presence here is not only a sign of military commitment, but also a message of solidarity and hope for all communities in Kosovo”, said the KFOR Commander.
The Colonel Rocco Mundothe outgoing Commander of Regional Command West, thanked his staff for their dedication and commitment during their mandate, emphasising that the success of the mission was the result of teamwork. He also expressed gratitude to the local authorities and the people of Kosovo for their cooperation and support. “We are leaving a territory that we have helped to make safer, thanks to constant dialogue and joint work with local authorities and communities”, said Colonel Mundo.
The baton now passes to the 183° “Nembo”historic regiment of the Folgore Parachute Brigadeled by Colonel Francesco Errico, who will continue the work of the Italian contingent with determination and spirit of service.
The Italian contingent of the Kosovo Force (KFOR), in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, contributes to maintaining a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo. In addition to operational aspects, the mission promotes activities to support institutions and the local population, operating under the direction of the Inter-Forces Summit Operations Command.
With this ceremony, the Italian contingent renews its commitment to ensuring stability and security in the Balkan area, confirming Italy's key role in international peace operations.
