On the occasion of the Anniversary celebrations of the Battle of El Alameinthe traditional launching of War Flags of the divisions of the Folgore Parachute Brigade at the Altopascio launch site. The event, rich in symbolism and history, was attended by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Massimiliano Mongillowho personally led the flag throwing, emphasising the importance of this gesture to remember the heroism of the Italian Paratroopers' units.
The airdrop featured the war flags of the 'Folgore' units, the Institute Flag and the Standard, together with the banners of other elite units of the Italian Armed Forces. Participating were the Army Special Forces Command (COMFOSE), the 4th Regiment Alpini Parachute 'Ranger' Regiment, the 9th Assault Regiment 'Col Moschin', the 185th Target Acquisition Reconnaissance Regiment 'Folgore, the 1st Carabinieri Regiment 'Tuscaniaand the Medagliere of theNational Parachutists Association of Italy.
This event represents one of the most significant traditions for the Parachute Corps, on the eve of the celebration of the Speciality, which this year will be held in Pisa, at the CAPAR barracks, on Wednesday 23 October 2024.
During the ceremony, which took place directly in the launch area, the Commander of the 'Folgore', Gen. B. Massimiliano Mongillo, after recalling some of the most significant historical moments, highlighted how the common denominator linking the Folgore, the units of the Army Special Forces Command and the 2nd Mobile Carabinieri Brigade, is "the sharing of values forged in the history of absolute heroism and generosity of our units, which never bowed down in the face of the enemy in the fulfilment of duty in the service of the homeland".
This airdrop symbolises not only the operational capability of the Folgore, but also the esprit de corps of our paratroopers and the indissoluble bond with Italian military history.
