The Commander of the Italian Army's Land Operational Forces (abbreviated as COMFOTER) General of the Army Corps Gaetano Zauner, recently continued his series of familiarization meetings with the units of the Land Operational Forces, stopping at the Paratroopers Brigade Folgore.

On June 18, General Zauner received from the Commander of the "Folgore", Brigadier General Massimiliano Mongillo, a detailed update on the main operational activities of the Great Unit. During the visit, the COMFOTER Commander had the opportunity to meet the personnel of the 184th Command and Tactical Support Unit “Nembo”, the Multifunctional Training Complex “Lustrissimi”, and the 187th Paratroopers Regiment “Folgore” stationed in Livorno. The following day, the delegation moved to Pisa to visit the Parachuting Training Center (CAPAR), the only Defense institution dedicated to parachuting training, and the Airborne Troops Museum, located in the same place.

Currently, the Paratroopers Brigade "Folgore" is engaged in a wide range of activities ranging from participation in international missions, with presences in almost all operational theaters where the Italian Armed Forces are involved, to cooperation for territorial control as part of Operation Safe Streets. This latter activity sees the involvement of the "Folgore" in the squares of Rome and in the regions of Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, and Marche.

Significant is also the commitment to training activities, both nationally and internationally, which are fundamental for the "Folgore" Brigade to maintain high standards of interoperability and operational readiness, crucial for joint operations with allied countries in the so-called airborne community.

The Paratroopers Brigade Folgore is renowned for its high level of technical-professional preparation and the excellent psychophysical characteristics of its personnel, making it one of the main resources of the Italian Army, capable of ensuring a rapid response and intervention in crisis and emergency situations, projecting operational units in reduced times in any scenario.

From May 1, 2024, the COMFOTER has assumed the role of Operational Area Head, with the direction of four Army Corps: the Alpine Troops Command of Bolzano, the Southern Operational Forces Command of Naples, the Northern Operational Forces Command of Padua, and the Support Operational Forces Command of Verona. This reorganization further strengthens the command and control capability, ensuring effective and coordinated management of the resources and operational units of the Italian Army. The COMFOTER also has several Commands under its direct control, including the Army Aviation Command (AVES) and the Army Special Forces Command (COMFOSE).
