The month of September saw the paratroopers of the 183rd Regiment "Nembo" engaged in an intensive training cycle at the Monte Romano area (VT), aimed at consolidating operational capabilities and testing the readiness level of the unit, as well as verifying the integration between the different components of the regiment and the reinforcing forces (augmentees), preparing them to effectively respond to potential crisis situations.
The first phase of the exercise was conducted under the guidance of the Tactical Training Center (CAT) of Monte Romano, where the "Nembo" participated in complex-level tactical acts in a scenario with real opposing forces (Opposing Force), drawn from the “Granatieri di Sardegna” Brigade. Thanks to the use of the Integrated Land Training Systems (SIAT), the unit was able to operate in an environment characterized by a very high level of realism, thus improving the effectiveness of the maneuvers.
The training saw an operational progression that started from the Basic Operational Modules (MOB) to culminate in a multi-weapon Tactical Group level offensive operation, conducted following an airdrop of a force quota from a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, demonstrating the effectiveness of planning and executing complex missions.
During the exercise, numerous activities were conducted, including:
- Shooting with portable and unit weapons;
- Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (Counter-IED) procedures;
- Crowd and Riot Control techniques;
- Military Combat Method (MCM);
- Force Protection procedures;
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training;
- Radio communications and Emergency Close Air Support (E-CAS) procedures;
- Personnel Recovery.
Assets from various units participated in the exercise, including the 8th Paratroopers Engineers Regiment "Folgore", the "Savoia Cavalleria" Regiment (3rd), the 7th CIMIC Regiment, the 11th Signals Regiment, the 28th "Pavia" Regiment, and the 1st Army Aviation Regiment "Antares". In total, about 350 soldiers were involved.
The 183rd Regiment "Nembo" and the units involved proved to be perfectly in line with the operational capabilities of the Paratroopers Brigade “Folgore”, confirming the high level of readiness and response capability in complex operations and further strengthening the “Folgore”'s ability to be employed as a versatile tool at the disposal of the Italian Army, capable of facing crisis scenarios in different operational contexts.
