Paratroopers of the 183rd Nembo in action in southern Kosovo

In recent days, the Italian paratroopers of the 183rd Regiment 'Nembo'historic regiment of the Parachute Brigade 'Folgoreconducted an important monitoring activity in southern Kosovo, as part of the international KFOR (Kosovo Force) mission. This operation is part of Italy's broader commitment to the security and stability of the Western Balkans, once again confirming the professionalism and effectiveness of our Armed Forces.

Italian personnel, framed under the command of Regional Command West, have intensified patrols and surveillance of the territory, with the aim of supporting security and ensuring freedom of movement for all citizens of the region. These activities not only aim to prevent possible tensions, but also contribute to creating a safer and more serene environment for local communities.

A particularly important aspect of this operation was the direct interaction with the civilian population and local authorities. The paratroopers of the 183rd 'Nembo' had the opportunity to meet with citizens, administrators and representatives of Kosovar institutions, thus strengthening relations of mutual trust. This kind of approach, based on dialogue and constant presence, is one of the fundamental pillars on which the credibility and effectiveness of the KFOR mission is based.

The presence of Italian soldiers, recognised as impartial and respectful of the different ethnic groups and cultures present in Kosovo, continues to represent a point of reference for local stability. Monitoring and patrolling activities are an integral part of the mandate conferred on KFOR by United Nations Resolution 1244, approved on 10 June 1999, which establishes the mission's task of guaranteeing security and supporting the country's reconstruction process.

The command of the KFOR mission is currently held by Division General Enrico Barduani, who assumed office on 11 October 2024. Under his leadership, the mission continues to operate with the aim of maintaining a safe and secure environment, while fostering dialogue and cooperation between the different Kosovar communities.

Italy's commitment in Kosovo is not only military, but also has strong diplomatic and political significance. Being present on the ground means contributing directly to international peace and security, as well as consolidating Italy's position as a responsible player in peacekeeping missions under the aegis of the United Nations and NATO.

The operation recently conducted by the 183rd 'Nembo' Regiment once again testifies to the level of preparation, dedication and humanity that characterises our paratroopers. The 'Folgore' Brigade, which has always been synonymous with excellence in military operations, proves once again that it is up to the most delicate tasks, carrying on a tradition of honour and service that makes the whole country proud.

Their presence in southern Kosovo is more than just a security activity: it is a concrete sign of solidarity, support and hope for a region that is still working to overcome the wounds of the past and build a peaceful future.
