The Military Academy recently inaugurated the exhibition 'Check Point Pasta, Mogadishu 1993-2023', a photographic exhibition commemorating, on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, those who fell in the first great post-war military clash: the three Gold Medals for Military Valour Parachutist Pasquale Baccaro, Sgt. Maj. Incursor Par. Stefano Paolicchi and Second Lieutenant Andrea Millevoi.
The event not only honours the memory of the fallen and wounded soldiers (including Lt. Col. Gianfranco Paglia), but also provides a detailed overview of the Somali context in 1992-94.
The BRIGATAFOLGORE.NET website, which has always been attentive to the historical reconstruction and enhancement of the Italian contribution in international contexts, offers ample space to the Italian Mission in Somalia and the Battle of the Pasta Factorydocumenting these events since 2005 on the old platform, and enriched today by the contribution of the book 'The Black Devils. The true story of the battle of Mogadishu'. by General Paolo Riccò, who provided new perspectives and details on the event.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by key figures, including the then Commander of the Italian Contingent in Somalia, Army General (res.) Bruno Loi, the Institute Commander, Division General Davide Scalabrin and the curator of the exhibition, Brigadier General (res.) Matteo Paesano.
The exhibition offers an in-depth view of the situation in Somalia between 1992 and 1994, highlighting UN actions to stabilise the region and highlighting humanitarian efforts in favour of the local population, focusing particularly on the battle of the 'Pasta' checkpoint and tracing the various missions of the Italian Army from the post-war period to the present.
Visitors will be able to explore photographs, prints and illustrations until 10 March 2024 at the Military Academy, before the next display at the Training Command and Application School in Turin, thus having the opportunity to reflect on Italy's commitment to international peace and stability.
