In an increasingly tense international context, with the winds of war blowing strongly at Europe's doors (and beyond), the need to maintain Armed Forces ready to respond to large-scale crises is more urgent than ever. In this scenario, the Folgore Paratroopers Brigade continues to refine its operational capabilities, especially for missions that require interventions behind enemy lines.
The constant training of the Folgore not only aims to ensure the ability to operate in highly complex situations but assumes even greater relevance in light of the recent transition of the Brigade under the Command of Terrestrial Operational Forces (COMFOTER). This new configuration strengthens the role of the "Folgore" as an essential tool for immediate intervention in conflict scenarios, rapidly projecting its units into critical operational contexts.
And it is precisely in this context that recently, at the Altopascio drop zone, the Folgore Paratroopers Brigade conducted the exercise "Sagitta 2024", aimed at testing the capability of the Large Unit to deploy the Advanced Command Post (ACP) after an airdrop on hostile territory.
The activity, coordinated by the 184th Command and Tactical Support Unit (RCST) "Nembo", tested the support and protection procedures of the ACP, fundamental for the Command and Control of the units in the initial phases of an airborne operation. The exercise focused on ensuring high mobility, through continuous movements ("leaps") after landing, necessary to ensure its survival and the uninterrupted functioning of communication systems, an essential element for operational coordination.
In modern reference scenarios, characterized by the need to control large contested spaces, also through the conquest and maintenance of vital points and areas, the ability to exercise Command and Control in an adherent, timely, and effective manner over the airdropped units is fundamental to ensure the maneuver, from its initial phases, and thus the success of the mission.
Due to the high level of technical professional preparation and the psychophysical characteristics of its personnel, the Folgore Paratroopers Brigade, since September 2, 2024, under the direct command of the Terrestrial Operational Forces Command, is among the tools available to the Army to ensure the Defense's ability to respond and intervene immediately in crisis and emergency situations, which require projecting, in reduced times, significant devices capable of operating in all areas of confrontation.
