As expected, due to an exceptional career in the service of the Nation and the international community, the former Commander of the Paratroopers Brigade Folgore (2017-2019), Rodolfo Sganga, has been appointed Army Corps General.
Who is Rodolfo Sganga, the "total" Commander
Conscription soldier in 1987, he later attended the 169th Course of the Military Academy of Modena. Promoted to Second Lieutenant in 1989, he was initially assigned to the Regiment Lagunari “Serenissima” where he served as Platoon Leader of Scouts.
As a Captain, he was Company Commander at the Military Academy and Rifle Company Commander at the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment “Nembo”. As a Lieutenant Colonel, he took command of the 2nd Paratroopers Battalion “Tarquinia”, for which he was awarded the Silver Medal for Military Valor in Afghanistan, for the events of July 25, 2009, in Bala Baluk with the following motivation:
Paratroopers battalion commander, during an operation aimed at verifying the presence of an explosives depot, was engaged by hostile forces for over five hours with small arms, mortars, and rockets fire. Demonstrating exceptional readiness and courage, exposing himself to personal risk, he organized and personally led the successful reaction, managing, in that circumstance, to have a wounded soldier rescued and evacuated. An exemplary figure of a commander who contributed to bringing prestige to the Italian Army in an international context.
