Today, August 21, 2025, at the “Predieri” barracks in Florence, Paratrooper Major General Giuseppe Scuderi assumed command of the Multinational Division South (MND-S) NATO, succeeding his peer Massimiliano Quarto.
The ceremony today follows the one on July 10, 2025, when with the flag-raising of the NATO standard, the MND-S was officially established, an evolution of the “Vittorio Veneto” Division, which since 2019 has embarked on a transformation path culminating with the exercise Steadfast Dagger 2024 (STDA24). Since June 15, 2025, the division has been formally reconfigured into a multinational command, with the role of Land Component Command of the Allied Reaction Force (ARF LCC).
The MND-S today represents a strategic node of the NATO Force Structure, capable of planning and conducting multinational and joint operations, ensuring interoperability and contributing to the Alliance's missions in terms of deterrence, defense, crisis management, and cooperative security.
