Brigadier General Giovanni Luigi Isoni is the new Commander of Comando delle Forze Speciali dell’Esercito (COMFOSE). He succeeds his counterpart Carmine Vizzuso, who relinquished command during a ceremony held in recent days at the Comprensorio Militare “Ten. M.O. Dario Vitali”.
The change of command was presided over by Lieutenant General Lorenzo D’Addario, Commander of the Land Operational Forces, in the presence of civilian and military authorities, representatives of veterans’ and service associations, and personnel family members.
The ceremony was held in front of the War Flag of the 185° Reggimento Paracadutisti Ricognizione Acquisizione Obiettivi “Folgore”, at a particularly significant time for the Italian Army’s Special Forces.
During the event, tribute was paid to the four Italian servicemembers who died in the tragic accident involving a CH-47 Chinook helicopter in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the EUFOR Althea mission.
General Vizzuso relinquishes command: training, operational capabilities and team spirit
In his farewell remarks, General Carmine Vizzuso reviewed the main activities conducted by COMFOSE during his command tenure, focusing on training efforts and the ongoing development of unit operational capabilities.
Among the experiences recalled were activities conducted by Rangers in Alaska as part of an international training environment, as well as exercises organized across Italy, some attended by the country’s highest state officials.
Particular emphasis was also placed on the recent relocation of the 9° Reggimento d’Assalto Paracadutisti “Col Moschin” from Livorno to the Comprensorio Militare “Vitali”, a significant step in the organizational evolution of the Italian Army’s Special Forces.
Vizzuso stressed that operational detachments of raiders, target acquisition specialists and Rangers represent the most advanced component of a complex system whose effectiveness depends on the contribution of all the professionals within it.
The General highlighted the value of teamwork, collaboration and sharing
