Neutralized a War Device in Faenza, Intervention by the "FOLGORE" Bomb Disposal Experts

The municipality of Faenza on February 19 was the scene of a delicate operation, the disposal of a war remnant dating back to World War II. The specialists of the 8th Paratrooper Sapper Regiment "Folgore" of the Italian Army managed the intervention with professionalism and precision, highlighting the importance of civil safety in post-war contexts.

The discovery is credited to a local citizen, who during plowing operations on his land identified the device: a 500-pound (approximately 250 kg) aerial bomb, characterized by a high explosive potential. The prompt report allowed for the immediate activation of safety procedures, entrusting the case to the expert hands of the bomb disposal experts.

The disposal operation, initiated at 08:00 under the coordination of the Prefecture of Ravenna and the Northern Operational Forces Command of Padua, required the preventive evacuation of the surrounding area, extended for 352 meters from the discovery site. This measure ensured the protection of residents, while the no-fly zone over the area avoided further risks during the critical phases of the intervention.

The bomb disposal experts, after carefully isolating the sensitive parts of the device, proceeded with the definitive neutralization on site, using specific techniques to minimize any danger. In addition, field fortification structures were built to contain the effects of a possible accidental explosion, demonstrating meticulous attention to the safety of the local community.

This intervention marks the first complex disposal of 2024 for the 8th Regiment "Folgore", adding to the numerous devices destroyed over the previous year. With 136 devices already neutralized since the beginning of the year and a total of 268 interventions in 2023, which led to the destruction of over 718 devices in the 7 provinces of competence, the commitment and dedication of the Italian Army's bomb disposal experts continue to be a fundamental pillar for the safety of the national territory.
