The 146th Military Rescuer Course has concluded at the Base Addestrativa “Aosta” in Piazza Armerina, in the province of Enna. The activity was conducted by the Brigade Medical Training Team (BMTT) of the Brigata Meccanizzata “Aosta”.
Direction and supervision were entrusted to the Scuola di Sanità e Veterinaria Militare. The course was conducted over four weeks.
The participants were 26 service members from units of the Brigata “Aosta”, the 66° Reggimento Fanteria Aeromobile “Friuli”, and the Corpo Militare della Croce Rossa Italiana.
Four weeks dedicated to TCCC
The training program followed NATO’s standardized protocol for first aid in operational environments, known as Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC).
Following an initial selection test, trainees attended classroom instruction and practical exercises. The activities focused on developing medical skills for use in tactical settings, including under direct threat.
The TCCC protocol comprises three phases. Care Under Fire (CUF) governs treatment of casualties while under enemy fire.
Tactical Field Care (TFC), on the other hand, concerns care provided under tactically safer conditions. Tactical Evacuation Care (TACEVAC) is dedicated to managing medical evacuation.
This final phase involves transfer to the most appropriate treatment facilities, known as medical treatment facilities (MTF).
Final tests and qualification
The training was conducted with logistical support from the 5° Reggimento Fanteria “Aosta”. The program concluded with a written test and a practical assessment.
Trainees who passed received the Military Rescuer qualification. The course therefore trained new personnel prepared to respond to medical emergencies in operational environments.
The activity is part of the specialist training provided by the Esercito Italiano, focusing on the professionalism, training, and operational readiness of personnel assigned to different deployment scenarios.
