In recent days, at the Furbara shooting range, the exercise “ARES 2025” concluded, an important training activity aimed at evaluating and enhancing the preparation of sharpshooters from various units of the Italian Army. The exercise, conducted by the 1st Regiment of the “Granatieri di Sardegna” Brigade, saw the participation of specialized teams engaged in an intense program covering various operational phases.
Two weeks of training: technical and tactical improvement for the sharpshooters
The exercise took place in two distinct phases: the first, dedicated to refining operational techniques and coordination among the various teams, involved a series of practical exercises aimed at improving the reactivity and precision of the sharpshooters. In the second phase, the focus shifted to the practical application of the acquired skills, with live-fire exercises conducted in an ad hoc experimental hub.

Simulations and cutting-edge technologies
A distinctive element of this edition of "ARES 2025" was the advanced use of simulation systems available to the Army. In particular, the FATS (Fire Arms Training System) allowed participants to face realistic operational scenarios without the need to use live ammunition. This interactive system used video projections and dynamic scenarios to simulate combat situations, enabling the sharpshooters to train safely, but with a simulation that faithfully reproduced real operational conditions. Additionally, the VBS (Virtual Battlespace) system provided an additional training tool, allowing engagement with complex virtual environments, analyzing reactions in extreme scenarios.

Innovations in tactics and new operational tools
During the exercise, new tactical approaches and the integration of new technologies were also tested, such as the use of drones, canine units, and mounted pairs. One of the main innovations was the introduction of the "terzina", a unit composed of three sharpshooters, replacing the traditional pair. This approach allowed for optimized coverage and effectiveness of the units in the field, improving the ability to operate in complex contexts.
The words of the Commander of the “Granatieri di Sardegna” Brigade
At the end of the exercise, Brigadier General Giuseppe Diotallevi, Commander of the “Granatieri di Sardegna” Brigade, emphasized the importance of continuous training and constant preparation for the men and women of the Italian Army. The General reiterated that training is fundamental to ensuring the safety and success of operations, in a geopolitical context that requires forces ready to operate in complex scenarios. Furthermore, he highlighted the value of standardizing procedures and interoperability among the different units of the Army, which allows for effectively facing modern challenges.

A further confirmation of the professionalism and effectiveness of the Italian Army
In conclusion, the exercise "ARES 2025" proved to be an important step for the enhancement of the capabilities of the Italian Army's sharpshooters. Thanks to the use of advanced technologies and the integration of new operational methods, the activity demonstrated the high level of preparation and adaptability of the forces in a constantly evolving training context.
