Tragedy in the mountains of Piedmont. Enrico Bolla, 56 years old, Carabinieri Lieutenant and a great mountaineering enthusiast, lost his life on Sunday, July 6, during a hike in Val Maira, in the Rocca Castello area. The Non-Commissioned Officer, originally from Bagnolo Piemonte and serving at the Carabinieri Cadet School in Turin, was climbing with his rope team along the Via Sigismondi when he fell about fifty meters, remaining suspended by the ropes a few meters from the ground.
The dynamics of the accident
The alarm was raised around 3:00 PM by a witness in the area and, a few minutes later, also by Bolla's climbing partner. During the ascent, at the second stop, the Lieutenant fell about 50 meters. The Alpine Rescue operation was quickly activated: the air rescue helicopter deployed the medical team and the Alpine Rescue technician lowered the injured to the base of the wall.
Despite resuscitation attempts, there was nothing to be done for Enrico Bolla: the doctor could only confirm his death. Subsequently, the helicopter retrieved the climbing partner and transported the Guardia di Finanza rescuers to Dronero for Judicial Police operations. The body was then entrusted to valley rescuers and transported by land to the carriage road.
A man of the mountains and values
Enrico Bolla was an experienced mountaineer and a great mountain enthusiast, known for his preparation and caution. After a long experience in the NAS of Turin, he held the role of Lieutenant with special assignments at the Carabinieri Cadet School in the Piedmontese capital.
Besides mountaineering, Bolla also cultivated a passion for parachuting: he was a counselor of the ANPd'I (Associazione Nazionale Paracadutisti d'Italia) section in Turin, where he was esteemed for his camaraderie and his commitment to conveying the values of service to the Nation.
His passing leaves a deep void in the community of mountain enthusiasts, among his colleagues in the Corps, and among the paratroopers of ANPd'I.
We join in the grief of the family and friends for the tragic passing of Enrico, to whom we extend our deepest condolences.
