A highly delicate medical mission by the Italian Air Force concluded early yesterday afternoon, Sunday, November 30: a newborn just one month old was urgently transferred from Cagliari to Milan-Linate to receive immediate specialized care.
The transport was carried out by a Gulfstream G650 of the 31° Stormo, a unit of the Air Force based in Ciampino (RM), employed in all missions requiring speed, precision, and advanced operational capabilities. As required for these interventions, the flight was authorized by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, responsible for the management and coordination of the state fleet.

The request for medical evacuation was made by the Prefecture of Cagliari to the Top Situations Room of the Air Squadron Command – 1st Air Region of Milan, the entity that ensures the readiness of crews for urgent transports of patients in imminent danger of life (IDL).
The G650 took off early in the afternoon from Cagliari-Elmas, reaching Milan-Linate in about an hour of flight. Once landed, the young patient was immediately taken care of by the medical staff of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, where she was hospitalized to receive the necessary assistance.
The Italian Air Force guarantees 24/7, every day of the year, an essential service for the community: urgent medical transports, organ transfers, movement of medical teams, and even ambulance transport. Only the flight units of the 31° Stormo, the 14° Stormo of Pratica di Mare, the 46ª Brigata Aerea of Pisa, and the helicopters of the 15° Stormo of Cervia total hundreds of flight hours each year dedicated to these missions, often conducted in complex weather conditions and with extremely tight schedules.
A silent but fundamental job, which continues to save lives every day.
