Italian bilateral mission of assistance and support in Libya, launched on January 1, 2018 from the reconfiguration of the operation "Ippocrate", which integrated health and humanitarian activities together with some technical support tasks in favor of the Libyan coast guard. The command is in Tripoli, while the Task Force "Ippocrate" operates in Misrata with the field hospital, whose security is entrusted to paratroopers of the "Folgore" and infantrymen of the marine Brigade "San Marco".

Contributo nazionale a UNIFIL nella configurazione assunta dopo la risoluzione 1701 del Consiglio di sicurezza, che al termine del conflitto israelo-libanese del 2006 portò la forza da poche migliaia a oltre diecimila uomini. Avviata il 29 agosto 2006, l'operazione vede l'Italia schierare un contingente consistente e reggere il comando del Settore Ovest, oltre a esprimere più volte il comando della missione. Nell'agosto 2025 il Consiglio di sicurezza ne ha approvato il rinnovo soltanto fino alla fine del 2026: seguirà un ritiro ordinato della durata di un anno, con la cessazione di UNIFIL nel 2027.

It includes KFOR, the Multinational Specialized Unit, the Military Liaison Office in Belgrade and the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo. Italy maintains one of the most substantial contingents and has commanded it on several occasions.

Multinational force established by the Camp David Accords to guarantee peace between Egypt and Israel. The Italian Navy has participated since April 1, 1982 with the 10° Gruppo Navale Costiero stationed in Sharm el-Sheikh, with patrol vessels of the "Esploratore" class and the task of verifying freedom of navigation in the Strait of Tiran. Participation is financed by the MFO and has indefinite duration.

United Nations military observer group along the control line between India and Pakistan. The Italian Defense General Staff dates the Italian area of intervention to January 3, 1959; however, Italy's participation with unarmed military observers dates back to 1949, when the Country was not yet a member of the United Nations, and for this reason it is considered the first international mission of Italian Defense.

National evacuation operation conducted in April 2023 at the outbreak of clashes between the Sudanese Army and Rapid Support Forces. Directed by the Interforces Operational Command, it deployed over 200 military personnel in the Joint Evacuation Task Force, with special forces from the 9th regiment "Col Moschin", the Special Intervention Group of the Carabinieri, raiders from the 17th Wing and Air Riflemen from the 16th Wing. Approximately 140 nationals were brought to safety, along with Swiss citizens, personnel from the Apostolic Nunciature, and citizens from other European countries.

Airlift for the evacuation of Afghan collaborators and Italian personnel following the fall of Kabul. Launched on 13 August 2021 and directed by the Joint Operations Command, it deployed over 1,500 military personnel, eight aircraft including KC-767 and C-130J with a transit base in Kuwait and the Joint Evacuation Task Force at Kabul airport. In fifteen days, 87 flights were carried out and 5,011 people were evacuated, of which 4,890 Afghan citizens including 1,301 women and 1,453 children: the highest number of evacuees after the United States and United Kingdom.

United Nations mission in southern Lebanon. Italian participation has been ongoing since 3 July 1979 and includes the naval component of the Maritime Task Force; since 29 August 2006, following the force reconfiguration, the national contingent has operated within Operation "Leonte" under the command of the Western Sector. It is the longest-running Italian mission currently in progress. In August 2025, the United Nations Security Council approved its renewal only until the end of 2026: this will be followed by an orderly withdrawal lasting one year, with the mission ceasing in 2027, forty-nine years after its establishment.

European Community observation mission, later European Union, in former Yugoslavia and Albania. Italian participation ranged from July 18, 1991 to October 18, 2006. On January 7, 1992, near Podrute, a Yugoslav fighter shot down an AB-205 helicopter of the mission: four Italian military personnel and one French military personnel died. Italy did not participate with a military contingent in the UN UNPROFOR force.

The national component was constituted on the 152° Reggimento fanteria "Sassari" with a squadron of "Savoia Cavalleria", and later included the 3° Reggimento alpini, the "Lancieri di Novara", the 183° Reggimento paracadutisti "Nembo" and the 66° Reggimento aeromobile "Friuli".

Italian participation in the multinational force led by Australia deployed in East Timor following the independence referendum, from 15 September 1999 to 14 February 2000. The contingent, of approximately 600 personnel from the three Armed Forces and the Carabinieri, included a tactical group of the Army based on the 187° Reggimento paracadutisti of the Brigata "Folgore", with a unit of the Reggimento "Tuscania". It is the mission conducted at the greatest distance from Italy.

Humanitarian operation conducted by the Italian Armed Forces to support the Albanian population during the crisis following the regime's collapse, with the distribution of over ninety thousand tons of aid in the first phase alone.

ITALFOR-IBIS contingent deployed in Somalia, articulated in Ibis 1 from December 5, 1992 to May 3, 1993 within the "Restore Hope" coalition and Ibis 2 from May 4, 1993 to April 5, 1994 under UN command of UNOSOM II. It was centered on the Parachute Brigade "Folgore", relieved on September 6, 1993 by the mechanized Brigade "Legnano", and included personnel from the Navy and Air Force. The area of responsibility extended from Mogadishu to the border with Ethiopia. During the mission, eleven Italian military personnel lost their lives, a volunteer Red Cross nurse, and two journalists.

Prima missione italiana in Libano, dal 21 agosto al 12 settembre 1982, nell'ambito della Forza Multinazionale. Affidata al 2° battaglione bersaglieri "Governolo" con 519 uomini al comando del tenente colonnello Bruno Tosetti, aveva il compito di garantire la sicurezza dei combattenti palestinesi in uscita da Beirut e della popolazione civile. Concepita inizialmente sotto egida ONU, perse tale copertura per il veto sovietico mentre il contingente era già in navigazione.

United Nations Operation in the former Belgian Congo, from 11 July 1960 to 4 January 1964. The operation included Italian Red Cross Hospital No. 010 and personnel from the Italian Air Force assigned to the UN force, with a detachment from the 46ª Brigata Aerea. It is the first participation of an Italian contingent in a United Nations mission.
