The city of Tolentino honors the heirs of the Assault Division “Nembo” with honorary citizenship

Eighty years after the liberation, the Municipality of Tolentino (MC) has granted honorary citizenship to the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment “Nembo” and the 184th Command and Tactical Support Unit “Nembo”, current heirs of the historic Assault Division “Nembo”. This prestigious recognition celebrates the decisive contribution made by the division in June 1944, when, as part of the Italian Liberation Corps, it actively participated in the liberation of the Adriatic side of Central Italy, restoring freedom to those territories.

The official ceremony took place in the presence of the main political and military authorities of the province of Macerata. Mayor Mauro Sclavi presented the recognition to Colonel Francesco Errico, Commander of the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment “Nembo”, and to Lieutenant Colonel Mirko Antonio De Mitri, Commander of the 184th RCST Paratroopers “Nembo”.

Present was Major General (res.) Leonardo Prizzi, former Commander of the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment. Prizzi was one of the main promoters of the initiative and provided the city council with the historical elements necessary to understand the strong bond between the military units and the Municipality of Tolentino.

Making the day even more special, a series of historical in-depth conferences and exhibition activities were organized by the Paratroopers Brigade “Folgore” and the Army Military Center Marche. The stands set up offered the citizens and local schools the opportunity to better understand the history and legacy of the paratrooper units, highlighting the importance of historical memory for the community.

With this initiative, the Municipality of Tolentino renews its commitment to preserving and enhancing historical memory, emphasizing how the sacrifice and commitment of the soldiers of the “Nembo” Division contributed to the freedom we enjoy today. The honorary citizenship represents not only a tribute to the past but also a symbol of union between civil and military institutions, projected towards a future of awareness and gratitude.

A significant gesture that strengthens the bond between Tolentino and the heir units of the Assault Division “Nembo”, custodians of a tradition of heroism and valor in the service of the Nation.
