Army bomb disposal experts, assigned to the 32nd Engineer Regiment, have concluded clearance operations in Pettinengo, in the province of Biella, of two artillery projectiles dating back to the early twentieth century, discovered in the basement of a private residence.
The devices, of Austro-Hungarian origin, were removed and secured by Army specialists, then transported to a suitable area where they were definitively destroyed.
The operation was conducted by bomb disposal experts of the 32nd Engineer Regiment, a unit of the Taurinense Alpine Brigade, allowing for rapid restoration of safety conditions and the return of the area to the community.
The work of Army bomb disposal experts
The 32nd Engineer Regiment is the specialist unit responsible for clearance operations from unexploded war ordnance in the regions of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta.
Specialized personnel provide continuous service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, intervening whenever bombs, grenades, artillery projectiles or other potentially dangerous war residues are found.
An activity that remains particularly intense even today: since the beginning of 2026, the Regiment's bomb disposal experts have already cleared more than 1,300 war devices, testimony to how the problem of twentieth-century war residues is still present on Italian territory.
