Following the weather alert and the rise in the Arno's level, local authorities in Pisa have ordered the installation of barriers along the riverbanks to contain potential floods. The operation, carried out by personnel of the Italian Army, required the temporary closure of the Lungarni to vehicular traffic to allow the placement of the metal barriers.
Dozens of soldiers from the Folgore Parachute Brigade were employed in the operations to install the so-called "panconcelli" on the river's embankments in the historic center of Pisa. The intervention was necessary to face the expected flood in the evening and reduce the risk of flooding.
All city bridges have been closed to transit, except for the Ponte delle Bocchette, which remains operational to ensure emergency traffic. Local authorities, in collaboration with Civil Protection and law enforcement, are monitoring the situation to adopt any additional measures.
The ongoing operations are part of a broader hydrogeological risk prevention plan, involving both the armed forces and Civil Protection volunteers. The city of Pisa and the province remain under close observation, with particular concerns for areas near the river.
As a precaution, the closure of schools and universities has been ordered for tomorrow, pending further updates. Citizens are urged to follow official communications and comply with the authorities' instructions to ensure public safety.
The Army has released a video showing the Folgore Paratroopers in action, once again demonstrating their commitment and operational readiness in service of the country.
