One Year After the Passing of Paratrooper NCO Gianluca Spina, Delegation from the 186th Rgt. Folgore Visits His Hometown

On April 13, 2023, Sergeant Major Paratrooper Gianluca Spina, aged 49, an NCO of the 186th Paratrooper Regiment Folgore, lost his life due to a sudden illness during a military jump, with over 30 years of service in the legendary Siena unit.

Yesterday, on the first anniversary of his passing, a delegation from the 186th Paratrooper Regiment Folgore, composed of the Commander, Colonel Paratrooper Giovanni Corrado, and the Regimental Sergeant Major, 1st Warrant Officer Paratrooper Giuseppe Perillo, paid tribute to the unfortunate Paratrooper. Together with family, friends, and local civil and military authorities, including Mayor Elvira Cozza, the Siena Paratroopers participated in a religious ceremony in the small parish of Spina's hometown, Belsito, in Calabria, and also visited his grave.

I met Gianluca during my service in the Folgore between 1999 and 2002, he was already at that time an extraordinary NCO, deeply attached to the Paratrooper Brigade Folgore. An exemplary professional and an absolute example for his Paratroopers. This is not a cliché. Gianluca truly was like that.
