Modena, July 30, 2026 – The traditional chimes of the Duty Bell of the Military Academy of Modena marked the conclusion of the 2025-2026 academic year of the Italian Army's training institutes.
The ceremony was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Army, General of the Army Corps Carmine Masiello, and the commander of the Army Training, Specialization and Doctrine Command, General of the Army Corps Antonello Vespaziani.
The message from General Masiello
Addressing the cadets, the Chief of Staff of the Army reminded them of the responsibility assumed by those who choose to wear the uniform and serve the country.
Masiello emphasized how the Army represents one of the highest expressions of the values of the Homeland and has the duty to preserve a moral heritage built also through the sacrifice of young Italians who fell in past wars.
The future commanders were invited to base every decision and behavior on discipline, courage, loyalty, professional preparation, and a spirit of service.
The 205th Course “Fierezza” leaves Modena
One of the most significant moments of the ceremony was the farewell to the 112 Officers of the 205th Course “Fierezza”, who completed the two-year program at the Military Academy and are preparing to continue their training at the Army Application School in Turin.
Among them are also ten foreign attendees from a total of eleven different countries, confirming the international dimension reached by the Modena institute.
The commander of the Military Academy, Major General Stefano Messina, bid farewell to the Officers of the 205th Course and also addressed the cadets of the 206th Course “Dignità”, destined to continue their educational path in Modena.
«The Military Academy does not change to follow the future, it changes to continue preparing the commanders who will know how to lead it», highlighted General Messina.
The commander recalled how character, competence, courage, and authority do not derive solely from study, but are built through daily example, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to lead men and women even in the most complex situations.
Over 700 attendees each year
The Military Academy of Modena, considered the oldest active military training institute in the world, welcomes over 700 attendees each year engaged in different university and professional courses.
The training of Officers includes degree courses in Strategic Sciences, Engineering, Law, Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies, carried out in collaboration with Italian universities.
The academic path is complemented by military training, physical preparation, the study of professional disciplines, and the development of command skills necessary to face current operational scenarios.
New university courses
Starting from the next academic year, the degree course in Strategic Sciences will be expanded with two new tracks, one philosophical and one managerial, developed in collaboration with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
A new collaboration with the University of Parma is also planned for the activation of the degree course in Veterinary Medicine.
The update of the educational offer responds to the need to prepare Officers capable of operating in an environment characterized by increasing technological, strategic, and organizational complexity, without giving up the values and traditions that have accompanied the training of Italian Army commanders for centuries.
