Lynx KF41: The Italian Army's Armoured Future

The Italian Army is ready for a generational leap with the introduction of the Lynx KF41the tracked combat vehicle developed by Rheinmetallintended to replace the Dart under the programme Army Armored Combat System (AICS). This ambitious modernisation plan provides for the realisation of about 1000 vehiclesdivided into five variants and sixteen configurationsto meet the broader operational needs of the Italian armed forces.

This extreme versatility results in a huge operational and logistical advantageallowing units to be adapted to the changing needs of the battlefield, all with a remarkable savings in running costs.

Unmatched Performance and Protection

The Lynx KF41 is designed to ensure an optimal balance between power, protection and mobility. Driven by a powerful 850 kW (1140 hp) Liebherr engine and a proven Renk transmissionthe vehicle can achieve extraordinary performance while maintaining a power-to-weight ratio of 26 hp/teven in the most armoured configuration from 44 tonnes.

Its characteristics of advanced survival include a modular armour adaptable to different operating scenarios, with specific protections for:

• Peacekeeping missions
• Counterinsurgency operations in urban environments
• High-intensity peer-to-peer combat

In addition, the Lynx KF41 with Lance 2.0 turret is set up for active protection systemscapable of neutralising anti-tank missiles and RPG rocketsdrastically increasing the defence capabilities in the field.

Lance 2.0, the Turret That Changes the Rules of the Game

The offensive heart of the Lynx KF41 is the new turret Lance 2.0an evolution of the proven Lance family. This turret integrates the Wotan 35 electric cannoncompatible with Rheinmetall ammunition from 35×228 mmand offers advanced protection for critical subsystemsimproving resistance to enemy blows in close combat.

A key element of the Lance 2.0 is the presence of two flexible mission moduleswhich can accommodate a variety of specialised equipment, including:

• Rafael Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles
• Loose ammunition for non-line-of-sight attacks
• UAV drones for advanced reconnaissance
• Electronic Warfare Systems (EW)

Thanks to this configuration, a unit equipped with Lynx KF41 may have a disproportionate impact on the battlefielddominating complex operational scenarios with unprecedented versatility.

Regimental Assignment and Future Prospects

Presumably, the Lynx KF41 will be assigned to leading units of the Italian Army, including the11th Regiment Bersaglieri of Brigade Arieteas well as at 1st and 8th Regiments Bersaglieri of Garibaldi Brigade. However, it remains to be seen whether the 151st and 152nd Infantry Regimentstogether with the 3rd Regiment Bersaglieri of Brigade SassariThey will be able to receive these vehicles, considering their history as mechanised units.
