Twenty-seven paratroopers from Brigata “Folgore” have completed a training program lasting approximately two months, designed to provide the skills needed to employ the mortars issued to airborne units.
The training activity, organized and conducted by the 187° Reggimento Paracadutisti “Folgore” in Livorno, involved personnel from three regiments of the Brigade: the 187th in Livorno, the 186° Reggimento Paracadutisti “Folgore” in Siena, and the 183° Reggimento Paracadutisti “Nembo” in Pistoia.
The program concluded with a mortar firing course at the Monteromano military range, in the province of Viterbo, where the trainees were able to put into practice the knowledge acquired during training.
Day and night training with mortars of different calibers
The training program was developed with an emphasis on realistic activities and alignment with the requirements of current operational scenarios.
Throughout the various phases of the course, the paratroopers explored the theoretical, technical, and procedural aspects of employing weapon systems, strengthening the skills needed to operate within their assigned units.
The final phase included a live-fire exercise with mortars of different calibers, involving both daytime and nighttime firing activities.
The trials made it possible to assess the level of proficiency attained by the 27 personnel, with particular attention paid to the correct application of procedures and the ability to rapidly integrate fire support into the maneuver of operational units.
Operational capabilities of Brigata Folgore strengthened
Completion of the training program provides the three regiments with 27 new mortar employment specialists, helping strengthen the fire-support capabilities of parachute units.
Mortars are an important component of infantry support weapons, providing indirect fire in support of units engaged in ground operations.
The activity conducted at Monteromano confirms the importance that Brigata “Folgore” places on realistic, continuous, and progressive training, which is essential to maintaining high levels of readiness and ensuring the operational effectiveness of its units.
