Lieutenant General Domenico Ciotti in Kosovo for Exercise Golden Sabre

In recent days, the Division General Domenico Ciotti, Head of the Operational Support Department of the Joint Force Headquarters (COVI)visited the Italian contingent in Kosovo at the Camp 'Village Italy. Welcomed by the Colonel Francesco Ferrara, Commander Regional Command West (RC-W)General Ciotti saluted the War Flag of the 1st Regiment Bersaglieri e firmato l’Albo d’Onore. Per il Generale una visita “famigliare” vista l’appartenenza alla gloriosa specialità dei Bersaglieri (tra i vari incarichi di Comando assolti in Italia e all’estero è stato anche Comandante dell’8° Reggimento Bersaglieri e Comandante della Brigata Bersaglieri “Garibaldi”).

During his visit, General Ciotti attended the NATO-KFOR 'Golden Sabre' exercise, led by Regional Command West. This exercise saw the participation of the three responders responsible for security and freedom of movement in Kosovo: the Kosovo Police (first responder), l'European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX, second responder) and the Kosovo Force (KFOR, third responder). Also on the ground were units with anti-riot equipment, includingCarabinieri Force in the Multinational Specialised Unit (MSU)which operated under the coordination of the Italian-led Regional Command West with the manoeuvre units of Eulex and the KP.

Al termine dell’esercitazione, il Generale Ciotti ha ringraziato i militari italiani per il loro impegno, sottolineando l’importanza delle attività svolte dalla missione KFOR a supporto delle comunità locali. La visita è proseguita con un sopralluogo al bridge built in Decane in 2015 from 6th Pioneer Engineer Regiment and ended at the Monastery of the same municipality.

The Italian KFOR contingent, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, contributes to the maintenance of a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo, while also promoting charitable activities under the direction of the Inter-Forces Summit Operations Command.
