General of the Army Corps Carmine Masiello proudly welcomed the athletes of the Army Sports Group, who distinguished themselves at the recent Italian Absolute Swimming Championships in Riccione. On this occasion, it was Corporal VFP4 Sara Curtis who stole the show, achieving two extraordinary Italian records and earning the respect of everyone in the swimming world.

A Meeting of Pride and Recognition
General Masiello met today, at the Central Military Library of the Army General Staff (SME), with the athletes of the Army Sports Group, who have enhanced the image of the Army and the Country in recent competitions. With 36 medals won, including 22 gold, the Army has demonstrated its constant commitment to promoting sporting excellence. Among the protagonists, Corporal VFP4 Sara Curtis, who achieved incredible results, including the new Italian record in the 100 meters freestyle, surpassing the record held for years by champion Federica Pellegrini.

The Army Sports Group, operating throughout the national territory, is organized into several specialized sections: the Summer Sports Section in Rome, the Winter Sports Section in Courmayeur, the Equestrian Sports Section in Montelibretti, and the Sports Parachuting Section in Pisa. The results achieved by the athletes in all disciplines, both in Italy and abroad, are a source of great pride for the Italian Army, also representing an important vehicle for promoting our Country worldwide.
Sara Curtis: A Prodigious Swimmer
Sara Curtis, a very young talent from Piedmont, drew attention during the Italian Absolute Swimming Championships in Riccione. In an event that saw the participation of the best Italian athletes, the 18-year-old demonstrated extraordinary technical skills, setting new Italian records in various disciplines.
The highlight of her performance came with the victory in the 100 meters freestyle, where she recorded a time that broke the previous record held by Federica Pellegrini since 2016. Not only in the 100 meters, but also in the 50 meters freestyle, Sara achieved great success. After setting the record in the heats with a time of 24"52, she further improved her record in the final, stopping the clock at 24"43, a result that allowed her to win the gold medal and consolidate her position as a leader on the national scene.
