Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) has released new footage of an operation conducted by its Special Forces in the Sumy region, in northeastern Ukraine. According to figures released by Kyiv, operators from GROUP 10 reportedly killed 108 Russian servicemen, wounded another 157, and captured 29 prisoners, striking more than 1,100 enemy targets overall.
The operation, which lasted approximately seven weeks, also reportedly enabled Ukrainian forces to retake control of more than 600 hectares of woodland, subsequently handed over to other units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The results were announced on October 20, while on October 28 Ukrainian intelligence released further footage of activities conducted on the ground.
The GROUP 10 operation
The operation was conducted by operators from GROUP 10, a unit belonging to the Active Operations Department of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
The main objective was to counter Russian offensive preparations in the Sumy sector and prevent the disruption of the main supply routes used by Ukrainian units deployed in the region.
According to information released by HUR, the operation unfolded in two phases, with the direct involvement of approximately 40 Special Forces operators in combat activities.
The unit reportedly conducted operations against Russian positions, neutralizing personnel and military infrastructure while gradually securing control of several wooded areas.

More than 1,100 targets struck
The operational tally released by Ukrainian intelligence includes more than 1,100 targets struck, including drone control and launch sites, artillery systems, military vehicles, and fortified positions.
According to Kyiv, the operations reportedly resulted in the deaths of 108 Russian servicemen and the wounding of another 157, while 29 were reportedly captured.
The territorial gain claimed concerns primarily a wooded area of more than 600 hectares, where Ukrainian operators reportedly cleared out opposing forces.
Once the activities were completed, the captured positions were transferred to other Ukrainian Defense Forces units tasked with maintaining control of them.

The importance of logistics routes in the Sumy region
The Sumy region, located along the border with the Russian Federation, is one of the sensitive sectors of Ukraine’s northern front.
In this area, control of wooded terrain and connecting routes is particularly important for troop mobility, maintaining defensive lines, and supplying units.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the GROUP 10 operation reportedly disrupted Russian offensive plans and preserved Ukrainian logistical lines.
The deployment of a unit specialized in prolonged operations in woodland terrain also highlights the role of military intelligence units in countering infiltrations, conducting reconnaissance, and taking direct action against targets of particular tactical interest.
