At Camp "Villaggio Italia" (Pejë/Peć, Kosovo), the handover ceremony took place between the 62nd Infantry Regiment "Sicilia" and the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment "Nembo", as the unit leading the Regional Command West of the KFOR mission.
The event, presided over by Major General Enrico Barduani, Commander of the KFOR mission, saw the participation of numerous civil and military authorities, including the Honorable Paola Maria Chiesa, Member of the IV Defense Commission and the Parliamentary Commission for Simplification, the Ambassador of Italy to Kosovo Antonello De Riu and Major General Nicola Piasente, Head of Planning and Exercises Department of the Joint Operational Command (COVI).
In his speech, General Barduani expressed deep appreciation for the work carried out by the personnel of the 62nd Regiment, highlighting the value and professionalism with which they represented the Italian contribution to the NATO mission. "Your work reflects the excellence and dedication that characterize our country. Your presence here is not only a sign of military commitment but also a message of solidarity and hope for all the communities of Kosovo", stated the KFOR Commander.
Colonel Rocco Mundo, outgoing Commander of the Regional Command West, expressed words of thanks to his personnel for the dedication and commitment shown during the mandate, emphasizing how the success of the mission is the result of teamwork. He also expressed gratitude to the local authorities and the Kosovar population for the collaboration and support received. "We leave a territory that we have helped to make safer, thanks to constant dialogue and joint work with local authorities and communities", declared Colonel Mundo.
The baton now passes to the 183rd "Nembo", a historic regiment of the Paratroopers Brigade Folgore, led by Colonel Francesco Errico, who will continue the work of the Italian contingent with determination and a spirit of service.
The Italian Contingent of the Kosovo Force (KFOR), in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, contributes to maintaining a safe and secure environment, as well as freedom of movement for all communities present in Kosovo. In addition to operational aspects, the mission promotes support activities for institutions and the local population, operating under the direction of the Joint Operational Command.
With this ceremony, the Italian contingent renews its commitment to ensuring stability and security in the Balkan area, confirming Italy's key role within international peace operations.
