On August 14, 2025, a Ukrainian sniper from the combined unit “Pryvid” set a new world record by eliminating two Russian soldiers from a distance of 4,000 meters. The feat, reported by Mil.in.ua, took place in the Pokrovsko-Mirnograd sector and was made possible by the use of a 14.5 mm Alligator anti-material rifle, aided by an artificial intelligence targeting system and the support of a reconnaissance UAV.
The Record Shot
According to reports, the bullet passed through the window of a building behind which the two Russian soldiers were located. The shot's range exceeded the previous record by 200 meters, set in November 2023 by 58-year-old Vyacheslav Kovalsky, a member of the SBU unit, who had neutralized an enemy at 3,800 meters with a Ukrainian-made Horizon’s Lord rifle.

The Alligator rifle, introduced in 2020, is a new-concept weapon: 2 meters long, with a 1.2-meter barrel and a total weight of 22.5 kg, it has an initial velocity of 980 m/s and can penetrate 10 mm plates at 1.5 km. Its primary mission is the destruction of fortified positions and light vehicles, but the August deployment showed how it can be used with extreme effectiveness in an anti-personnel role at unprecedented distances.
The “Pryvid” unit has already claimed nearly 1,000 neutralizations since the start of the conflict, solidifying the reputation of Ukrainian snipers as among the most lethal and innovative on the battlefield.
Snipers and Technology: AI and Drones in Precision Shooting
One of the most innovative aspects of this record is the integration between traditional sniping and emerging technologies. The use of reconnaissance drones for assessing shooting conditions and AI-based calculation systems allowed for compensation of variables such as wind, temperature, atmospheric pressure, and ballistic trajectory.
This is a tangible demonstration of how modern warfare is transforming even “ancient” disciplines like precision shooting into a complex, multi-domain system where human-machine synergy becomes crucial.

Conclusions
The Ukrainian 4,000-meter record marks a new benchmark in the history of precision shooting, highlighting the combination of training, technology, and individual courage.
While in Ukraine the use of anti-material rifles and advanced systems has set a world record, for Europe this episode is a wake-up call: marksmen units will need to update their equipment with dedicated reconnaissance drones, AI-supported optics, and new rifles suitable for engagements beyond 2,000 meters. Only in this way will it be possible to maintain operational superiority and effectively respond to the challenges of modern warfare.
