The Trieste Section of the National Association of Italian Paratroopers (A.N.P.d'I.) celebrates in 2026 a particularly significant milestone: eighty years since its foundation, which took place in 1946.

An anniversary that the Trieste Section has chosen to commemorate through a series of cultural and commemorative initiatives dedicated to the history of parachuting, airborne troops and above all to the men who, over eight decades, have kept alive the traditions and values of the specialty.

Celebrations began in August

The eightieth anniversary program got underway at the end of August.

The first event took place on Saturday, August 29, at the "Xenia" Hall in Trieste, with the presentation of the fourth volume «Come Aquile Piombiam», the concluding chapter of a comprehensive historical compendium dedicated to parachuting and the world's major airborne troops.

The meeting, introduced by Prof. Maurizio Manzin of the University of Trento, represented one of the first official moments of the celebrations.

The initiatives continued the following day, Sunday, August 30, with a further meeting and discussion dedicated to the historical path of the Section and the appointments organized for the eightieth anniversary.

A historical-documentary exhibition for the 80 years

The next major event will be the Historical-Documentary Exhibition for the Eightieth Anniversary of the Trieste ANPd'I Section, organized at the Museum of War for Peace "Diego de Henriquez", at via Cumano 22 / via dei Tominz 4, in Trieste.

The exhibition will be open in a first phase from September 26 to October 25, 2026, with hours 10:00-18:00 from Wednesday to Sunday.

As indicated in the program distributed by the organizers, from October 14 the scheduled hours will instead be 10:00-17:00, always from Wednesday to Sunday.

The exhibition will guide visitors through documents, testimonies and materials related to the history of the Trieste Section and, more generally, to the culture and traditions of Italian parachuting.

From 1946 to 2026

The occasion is summarized in the official poster with three words that directly evoke the associative spirit:

«Eighty years of courage, loyalty and paratrooper spirit».

From 1946 to 2026, the Trieste Section has traversed eight decades of Italian history while maintaining the bond between different generations of paratroopers, military personnel on active duty and retired, enthusiasts and citizens.

The Section also bears the name of the Gold Medal for Military Valor Goffredo Tonini, a figure linked to the history and traditions of Italian paratroopers.

The eightieth anniversary thus becomes not only an association commemoration, but also an opportunity to preserve and transmit the historical memory of paratroopers, bringing the public closer to a tradition that continues to live through the Sections of the National Association of Italian Paratroopers.

The initiatives are carried out with the collaboration and support of institutional and associative realities in the territory, including the Municipality of Trieste and the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
