Defence appointment time: Council of Ministers decides on new top management

Today, during the Council of Ministers meeting, as reported by the Sassate important appointments concerning the leadership of the Ministry of Defence will be decided. The Air Squadron General Antonio Conserva was chosen as the new Chief of Staff of the Air Force (AMI)replacing General Luca Goretti.

L'Lieutenant Admiral Giacinto Ottaviani, born in San Benedetto del Tronto on 19 July 1964, has a long military career. After attending theNaval Academy (1983-1987), held various operational and command roles, including Commander of the Frigate EURO during theOperation Persian Gulf, Commander of the patrol vessel CASSIOPEA and the Frigate AVIERE participating in NATO's Active Endeavour operations, and Destroyer Commander ANDREA DORIA in theOperation TUCANO.

He has held senior positions on land, including Chief of the Naval Staff PERSONNEL Department and the Defence General Staffand in 2021 became President of the Centre for Advanced Defence Studies. Ottaviani also has a solid academic background, with degree in Physics, MBA and a Master in Global Strategy and Security. From 29 July 2024, holds the position of Deputy Chief of Defence Staff.

The cycle of appointments will end next week with the promotion of the Air Force General Luigi Del Bene to the role of Deputy Chief of Defence Stafffurther strengthening the command structure of the national defence sector. The General Luigi Del Bene, born in Sansepolcro in 1967, he embarked on a brilliant career in the Air Force.
