The Comprensorio Militare di Persano hosted the 3° Workshop Operativo APR, dedicated to remotely piloted aircraft. The activity was part of the training planned by the Comando delle Forze di Supporto al Combattimento.
The workshop was organized by the 41° reggimento IMINT “Cordenons” and involved several Area Operativa units. All drones in service with the Italian Army were employed during the exercise.
Drones integrated with specialist assets
The exercise directorate, composed of specialists from the Brigata Informazioni Tattiche, coordinated the unmanned systems. The activity made it possible to assess their integration with IMINT and Electronic Warfare assets.
The trials also covered links with capabilities dedicated to detecting and tracking the Air Threat. Operations took place in a scenario designed to replicate realistic conditions.
The exercise scenario also included a threat represented by FPV drones (First Person View). The systems were operated by hostile forces, free to maneuver and seize the tactical initiative.
General Gagliano visits deployed assets
The Commander of the Comando delle Forze di Supporto al Combattimento, Lieutenant General Giovanni Gagliano, visited the assets involved. The commander expressed satisfaction with the full achievement of the established training objectives.
Gagliano also highlighted the professional development of personnel involved in training and employing drones within the Italian Army. According to the Italian Army, the exercise reaffirmed the role of training in supporting the readiness and effectiveness of the military instrument under all conditions.
