Strade Sicure, the Commander of FOTER meets the leaders of the Groupings

The Commander of the Land Operational Forces, Army Corps General Paratrooper Lorenzo D’Addario, met with the commanders of the Groupings involved in the “Strade Sicure” operation, to review the organization and conduct of the activities carried out by the Army on national territory.

The meeting is part of the reorganization process that, from July 1, 2026, assigned the responsibility for controlling the operation to the Land Operational Forces Command in Verona. The COMFOTER has thus become the main reference for the Armed Forces for coordinating the military deployment in Italian cities.

During the meeting, the operational, logistical, and organizational aspects of the different Groupings were analyzed, with particular attention to coordination with the Prefectures and Police Forces, the safety of personnel, and the ability to quickly adapt the device to the needs of the territories.

General D’Addario emphasized the importance of the task performed daily by the military, called to guard stations, airports, places of cultural interest, strategic infrastructures, and other sensitive targets.

The “Strade Sicure” operation, launched in 2008, indeed involves the use of the Armed Forces in support of the Public Security Authorities. The military personnel operates under the functional dependency of the Prefects, performing surveillance, patrolling, and territorial control services in collaboration with the State Police, Carabinieri, and Guardia di Finanza.

The transfer of responsibility to COMFOTER aims to make the direction of the operation more uniform, improving coordination among the Groupings and promoting a unified management of the resources employed.

Currently, the device involves thousands of military personnel distributed across numerous Italian provinces, engaged in the protection of hundreds of areas and targets considered sensitive.

The meeting also represented an opportunity to reaffirm the closeness of the Armed Forces leadership to the deployed personnel and to delve into the main needs that emerged during the performance of the services.
