The United Kingdom has formalized a new strategic agreement with Lebanon to consolidate cooperation in security and defense matters. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the British government, the Lebanese Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, and the Ministry of Defense.
The agreement, announced on August 17, 2026 by the British Embassy in Beirut, reaffirms the long-standing partnership between London and the main security institutions of the Cedar Nation.
Key Points of the Agreement
- Financial Support: Through the Integrated Security Fund, the United Kingdom will finance an Internal Security Assistance Program lasting 31 months, destined for the Internal Security Forces (ISF) and the Lebanese Army, for a total value of up to 16.3 million pounds.
- Strategic Objectives: The agreement aims to strengthen security, stability, state authority, and institutional resilience in Lebanon.
- Response to Threats: The program will support professional, responsible, and effective responses to current and emerging security challenges, including counter-terrorism activities and combating criminal violence.
- Continuity of Cooperation: London has been a close and consistent partner of the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces since 2009.
