Quito 2025, another Gold for Calcagni in the 400 meters! Gold also for General Como at the Military World Championships. Silver for Perrone and Ricciardi

A day of great pride for the Italian colors at the Military Para Athletics World Championship and the World Trial-O, taking place at the Escuela Superior Militar “Eloy Alfaro” in Quito. Delegations from ten countries – including Brazil, Ecuador, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, and Russia – competed in disciplines that tested speed, endurance, and spirit of sacrifice.

For Italy, already on the opening day, there were four extraordinary podium finishes, with two gold medals and two silver medals:

• In the 100 meters T47 category, General Roberto Como won the gold medal with a time of 15.48, confirming his extraordinary athletic form and strong connection with military sports.
• In the 100 meters T42/T44, Salvatore Perrone finished second with a time of 17.81, behind the Russian Makarenkov Sergei (14.58).
• In the 100 meters T72, the unstoppable Colonel Carlo Calcagni dominated the race with a time of 14.94, clearly outperforming his opponents.
• In the 800 meters T46, Michele Ricciardi fought until the last meter, bringing home a silver with 2.34,74, behind the Russian Kosumov Bolat (2.17,01).

But the satisfactions did not stop there. On the second day of competitions, Italy experienced another memorable day: Colonel Carlo Calcagni achieved his second consecutive gold medal, dominating the 400 meters T72 with the extraordinary time of 1’00”99. In the same session, General Roberto Como secured a brilliant silver in the 400 meters T47, beaten only by a top-level Russian opponent, “an extraordinary athlete,” as Como himself acknowledged with great sportsmanship.

With an impressive display of strength and determination, our athletes demonstrated not only their talent but also an exceptional physical and mental condition, capable of facing close commitments with the same energy.

These results confirm the level of excellence reached by Italian military athletes, capable of asserting themselves with courage and determination in high-level international competitions.
