Paratrooper Lieutenant Loses Life in Motorcycle Accident - brigatafolgore.net

Cascina, July 1, 2025 – The community of Crespina Lorenzana is in shock over the tragic death of Lieutenant Alessandro Serenelli, 55, an army soldier and esteemed parachuting instructor. Serenelli lost his life this morning, around 7:30, in a dramatic motorcycle accident along the Cucigliana Lorenzana provincial road, in the Cascina section known as via Nazario Sauro.

The man, while on his way to work, suddenly skidded with his powerful motorcycle, crashing into the guard rail shortly after passing the exit for the Lavoria highway. Despite the initial rescue efforts, nothing could be done for the lieutenant. At the scene of the accident, the despair of his wife Katia Balducci touched everyone's heart: "Damn motorcycle, damn motorcycle," her heart-wrenching cry.

The Dynamics of the Accident and the Rescue

According to the reconstruction by the municipal police of Cascina, it was a single-vehicle accident. The causes are still under investigation, but it is hypothesized that Serenelli may have had a sudden illness or distraction that caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

Several motorists, witnesses to the tragedy on a usually busy road, immediately stopped to provide assistance and alert 118. An ambulance from Misericordia di Cenaia quickly arrived on the scene, but unfortunately, all resuscitation attempts proved futile.

Via Nazario Sauro remained closed to traffic for over three hours to allow the Cascina Municipal Police to carry out the surveys. Since the dynamics appeared clear from the start, the motorcycle was not seized, and the body was immediately made available to the family for the funeral.

The Grief of the Family and the Community

Alessandro Serenelli, a lieutenant with a special assignment, served at Comfose (Army Special Forces Command) based adjacent to Camp Darby, in San Piero a Grado. He was a point of reference as a parachuting instructor and in his free time managed the "Skydive Costa d’Argento" school in Orbetello. His absence in the morning, unusual for a man of such precision, alerted his colleagues, bringing the terrible news to his wife Katia Balducci, who rushed to the accident site. After her heart-wrenching outburst, she was assisted by Misericordia volunteers and taken back home to Crespina Lorenzana.

Serenelli was the son of Lamberto Serenelli, also a former non-commissioned officer of the Folgore, and had passionately followed in his father's footsteps, earning the esteem of all his colleagues in the 185th Paratrooper Artillery Regiment Folgore, who joined in an emotional embrace with the family.

His wife, Katia Balducci, is well known in Crespina for having managed a grocery store for years and for her active participation in the local association world, including the Fratres.

The prosecutor did not deem further investigations necessary, and the motorcycle was entrusted to the wife. The body of Lieutenant Alessandro Serenelli was laid out at the residence on via Roma, 7. The funeral will be held tomorrow, July 2, at 9:30 am, in the church of Crespina. The community gathers around the family in this moment of deep sorrow.
