Paratrooper Acquisitor Alessandro Grassano Promoted to Major General

The rise of General Officers from the airborne troops within the Armed Forces continues.
The former Commander of the 185th RRAO "Folgore" Alessandro Grassano has received the second star as General. Born in Alessandria on November 21, 1970, Grassano began his journey at the Military Academy of the Army in Modena in 1990. After achieving the rank of Lieutenant in 1995, he started serving in the 185th Paratrooper Artillery Regiment "Folgore" in Livorno.

In 2002, he served as a Liaison Officer at the KFOR Mission Headquarters in Pristina, and the following year he was deployed as an Intelligence Officer in Afghanistan during Operation "Enduring Freedom". He gained extensive operational experience by participating in missions in Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq, demonstrating excellent skills in managing complex situations. In 2004, while at the Initial Core of the Army Special Forces Command in Florence, he served as a HUMINT Officer in Iraq, as part of Operation "Ancient Babylon".

After the Staff Course in 2006, he took command of the Target Acquisition Battalion at the 185th Paratrooper Regiment RRAO "Folgore". His expertise led him to hold important training positions, such as commanding the Cadet Battalion at the Military Academy in Modena and significant roles at the Joint Operational Command (COVI) in Rome.

The promotion to Brigadier General on January 1, 2021, and the subsequent command of the Italian Bilateral Mission in support of the Republic of Niger represent the continuation of his commitment to international cooperation and security. In his current role as Deputy Head of the III Department Strategic Direction and Military Cooperation of the Defense General Staff, Gen. Grassano focuses on international cooperation, a crucial area for Italian defense and security policy.

The promotion to Major General is not only a recognition of a career spent in service to the Country and the international community but also reflects the importance of the skills, experience, and leadership demonstrated by the General over the years.
