After activities conducted between Lakes Garda and Ledro, focusing on observation, information gathering, and sharing it with the team, trainees of the Marina Militare’s Corso Ordinario Palombari continued their training at the Furbara range.
The new module covered the study and use of explosives. Under the guidance of instructors, this training is intended to prepare participants to become underwater EOD technicians.
Field activities required careful preparation and use of equipment, close attention to instructions, and coordination among trainees. Each task was carried out by applying established procedures and linking individual preparation to collective work.
Final off-site activity of the course
For participants in the 2026 regular course, Furbara marked the final training activity outside Comando Raggruppamento Subacquei ed Incursori “Teseo Tesei”. This concluded one phase of the training year.
In the coming weeks, the course will continue at COMSUBIN. Aspiring Palombari will face physical tests and practical activities, culminating in a final assessment exercise.
During this final phase, they will have to apply techniques and procedures learned in the various modules to complex scenarios. The knowledge they have acquired must translate into the ability to understand the problem, set priorities, coordinate with their teammates, and complete the assigned task.
Capabilities under instructors’ scrutiny
Trainees will also be required to remain clear-headed under pressure and communicate clearly. Each individual will have to contribute to the team, taking responsibility for their own decisions while considering the needs of others.
The tests will allow instructors to assess how well each participant can integrate physical fitness, technical skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. The outcome will determine who has achieved the qualification to become a Palombaro of the Marina Militare.
The blue beret represents the goal for which the trainees have worked throughout the year. The coming weeks will determine who is ready to wear it.
