On 13 April 2023, he lost his life due to an illness during a military launch on Staff Sergeant Parachutist Gianluca Spina, 49 years old, NCO of the 186th Parachute Regiment Folgorewith more than 30 years of service at the legendary department in Siena.
Yesterday, on the first anniversary of his death, a delegation from the 186th Folgore Parachute Regiment, comprising the Commander, Parachutist Colonel Giovanni Corrado, and the Corps NCO, 1st Lieutenant Parachutist Giuseppe Perillo, paid homage to the unfortunate paratrooper. Together with family, friends and local civil and military authorities, including the mayor Elvira Cozza, the Siena Parachutists took part in a religious ceremony in the small parish of Spina's hometown of Belsito, Calabria, where they also visited his grave.
We at Brigatafolgore.net, particularly in the person of the writer Alessandro Generotti, would like to remember Gianluca, a man and a paratrooper who dedicated his life to the service of his homeland and who left us in the full performance of his duty.
I met Gianluca during my service in the Folgore between 1999 and 2002he was already an extraordinary NCO at the time, very attached to the Folgore Parachute Brigade. An exemplary professional and an absolute example for his Parachutists. This is not a catchphrase. Gianluca was truly like that.
Blue skies Gianluca, Thunderbolt!
