In recent days, Major General Domenico Ciotti, Head of the Operational Support Department of the Joint Operations Command (COVI), visited the Italian contingent in Kosovo at Camp “Villaggio Italia”. Welcomed by Colonel Francesco Ferrara, Commander of the Regional Command West (RC-W), General Ciotti saluted the War Flag of the 1st Bersaglieri Regiment and signed the Honor Roll. For the General, it was a "familiar" visit given his belonging to the glorious Bersaglieri specialty (among the various command roles held in Italy and abroad, he was also Commander of the 8th Bersaglieri Regiment and Commander of the Bersaglieri Brigade "Garibaldi").

During the visit, General Ciotti attended the NATO-KFOR exercise “Golden Sabre”, led by the Regional Command West. This exercise involved the participation of the three responders responsible for security and freedom of movement in Kosovo: the Kosovo Police (first responder), the European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX, second responder), and the Kosovo Force (KFOR, third responder). On the ground were also units with riot control equipment, including assets from the Carabinieri in the Multinational Specialized Unit (MSU), which operated under the coordination of the Italian-led Regional Command West, with the maneuver units of Eulex and the KP.

At the end of the exercise, General Ciotti thanked the Italian soldiers for their commitment, emphasizing the importance of the activities carried out by the KFOR mission in support of local communities. The visit continued with an inspection of the bridge built in Decane in 2015 by the 6th Engineer Regiment and concluded at the Monastery of the same municipality.

The Italian contingent of KFOR, in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, contributes to maintaining a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo, also promoting charitable activities under the direction of the Joint Operations Command.
