With deep sorrow, we learn of the passing of Lieutenant Colonel (res.) Marco Mattia Magretti, President of the ANPd’I Rome Section. As reported on the official website of the National Association of Italian Paratroopers, a sudden illness took him away from the affection of his loved ones and the great family of Paratroopers.
Magretti was a dedicated reader of our site, a passionate Paratrooper, always ready with a smile and that friendly camaraderie that distinguished him. For three years, he led the Roman Section of the ANPd’I with extraordinary dedication, after a long association membership that saw him as an indefatigable protagonist of many activities.
His military history is rooted in the 5th Paratrooper Battalion “El Alamein” of Siena, a unit where he served as an officer on a three-year term, also taking part in the mission in Lebanon and keeping alive throughout his life, as reported on the ANPd'I site by General Pollini, the burning torch of the Folgore. Just this June, he was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of the reserve, a significant recognition of his deep commitment and strong sense of belonging to the Paratrooper specialty.
The Officer's funeral will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 AM at the Parish of San Giovanni Battista De La Salle, Via dell’Orsa Minore n.59 in Rome, preceded by the opening of the funeral chamber at 08:30 AM at the S. Eugenio Hospital, Piazzale dell’Umanesimo n.10.
