The Pontifical Basilica of San Vito Martire in Forio hosted a solemn ceremony dedicated to the awarding of Civic Honors, through which the municipal administration recognized the commitment demonstrated by institutions and military personnel in the area.
Honors for the Esercito
The Esercito Italiano received honorary citizenship, accepted by Major General Stefano Messina, current Commandant of the Accademia Militare di Modena. Certificates of Civic Honor were also presented to several units of the Armed Force: the Brigata Meccanizzata "Granatieri di Sardegna", the Brigata Meccanizzata "Sassari", the Brigata Paracadutisti "Folgore", the 7° Reggimento Alpini, the 7° Reggimento Bersaglieri, the 9° Reggimento "Col Moschin" and the Scuola Militare "Nunziatella".
A well-established bond with the local area
The ceremony was an institutional occasion intended to underscore the relationship that has developed between the community of Forio, the island of Ischia and the Esercito Italiano. This bond has been strengthened in particular through the Armed Force's response to the emergencies and disasters that have recently affected the island.
Honors for senior military leaders
A Civic Honor was also awarded to senior officers, including Major General Giuseppe Scuderi, Commander of MND-S, "for the value of their respective careers and for their service to the Institutions and the Country".
