The Armored Brigade “Ariete” has recently completed one of its most ambitious exercises, named "Tempra d'acciaio". The exercise was distinguished by its high degree of realism, replicating the conditions of a current conflict under the aegis of NATO Article 5, which provides for the collective defense of alliance members.
"Tempra d'acciaio", planned to enhance and refine the operational capabilities of the units, is part of the broader NATO enhanced Vigilance Activity (e-VA) program in Bulgaria. It integrated various types of training activities, including the Command Post Exercise (CPX) for the Brigade Command, and the exercises "Demetra 1/24" and "Artemide 1/24", led respectively by the 32nd Tank Regiment and the Regiment Lancieri di Novara (5th).
During the exercise, both "live fire" and "blank" maneuvers were conducted, covering all levels from platoon to tactical group. This involved various units of the Brigade, including armored and line cavalry, heavy infantry, artillery, and engineers, allowing for refined interaction between the different operational functions. Additionally, the technical-tactical procedures of the combat, combat support, and combat service support components were tested and perfected, along with enabler assets such as EW (Electronic Warfare), IMINT (Imagery Intelligence), and AVES (Aviation Support).
The Task Force of the 32nd Tank Regiment and the 5th Regiment Lancieri conducted offensive operations, overcoming natural obstacles and engaging enemy mechanized units to degrade their operational capabilities. Simultaneously, reconnaissance activities were carried out to protect the main effort.
The presence of Brigadier General Domenico Leotta, Commander of the “Ariete” Brigade, and the Commander of the 7th French Armored Brigade, Brig. Gen. Philippe L. Le Carff, underscored the strategic importance and international scope of the exercise.
With "Tempra d'acciaio", the “Ariete” Brigade not only strengthened its operational readiness but also demonstrated the ability to operate effectively as a Multinational Brigade HQ and Forward Land Forces, crucial elements for the collective defense and security of the Atlantic Alliance.
