High Intensity Exercise at Capo Teulada: Role 2 and Command Posts - brigadefolgore.net
Teulada (SU), April 2025 - A complex inter-force exercise was concluded at the Capo Teulada Permanent Polygon, involving the Bersaglieri 'Garibaldi' Brigade and units of the Army Logistics Command. The purpose of the training activity was to validate the command, control and coordination procedures between the operational, logistic and medical components, within a high-intensity operational scenario and in a non-permissive environment.
The exercise involved the simultaneous deployment of several Command Posts, including those of the 'Garibaldi' Brigade, the 'Garibaldi' Logistic Regiment, the 4th Tank Regiment and the 10th Health Department. Among the capabilities tested: support to front-line supplies, the recovery of materials and vehicles, and the activation of ROLE 2 BASIC and ROLE 2 FORWARD Medical Treatment Facilities (MTF), advanced medical facilities capable of providing surgical support and stabilisation of the wounded directly on the ground.
The contribution of the Logistic Command's medical staff was fundamental, ensuring the full functioning of the entire deployed medical system, demonstrating a prompt response capability in crisis situations. The initiative confirmed the Army's readiness to face complex scenarios and to consolidate synergies between operational and logistic units, essential aspects for any modern armed force.
ROLE 2 MTFs are an essential element of the Army's healthcare capability. They are modular and transportable structures, designed to operate in out-of-area theatres but also in support of the population in the event of natural disasters or health emergencies, as demonstrated during the recent pandemic. The ROLE 2B model includes modules dedicated to emergency, surgery, diagnostics, intensive care, hospitalisation, pharmacy and healthcare management. The more advanced ROLE 2E versions also include laboratories, mental health facilities, dentistry and isolation capabilities for infectious diseases.
Thanks to their modular configuration and rapid transport capability, MTFs are a valuable asset for both military operations abroad and for timely intervention at home. Integration with other logistical and tactical components ensures effective management of medical care on the battlefield, significantly reducing response times and improving the survival of the seriously wounded.
A key element of the exercise was the deployment of Field Command Posts equipped with VCC 577 tracked vehicles, which were used by all the units involved. These vehicles, derived from the M113, once again demonstrated their versatility in supporting command and control activities in complex operational contexts. In particular, the adoption of these vehicles allowed full integration between operational, logistical and medical components, offering protection, mobility and continuous communication capabilities.
This capability, fully exercised during the activity in Teulada, proved crucial to the overall effectiveness of the exercise, confirming the importance of investing in the modernisation of C2 vehicles and the training of personnel capable of operating in digitised, operationally intensive environments.
The exercise in Teulada and the ongoing programmes to enhance the Army's medical and armoured capabilities testify to the constant evolution of the national military instrument. The synergy between manoeuvre, logistics and health, combined with the investment in modern and versatile means, confirms the Armed Force's commitment to ensure readiness, effectiveness and response capability in any operational scenario, both at home and abroad. The integration of advanced technologies such as the VCC 577 and the MTF ROLE 2 represents a decisive step towards a future-oriented Army, ready to face the challenges of the new global operational landscape.
