Marghera, May 16, 2025 – Once again, the perfect synergy between the Italian Army and the Navy has allowed the neutralization of a serious threat dating back to the Second World War. During some excavation operations at a construction site of the Marghera Petrochemical Hub, a highly destructive 500-pound (227 kg) aerial explosive device was discovered.

The intervention, conducted by the bomb disposal experts of the 8th Paratrooper Engineer Regiment "Folgore" and the Divers of the Underwater Operational Group (GOS) of COMSUBIN, was coordinated by the Prefecture of Venice. After securing the bomb, the Folgore specialists handed the device over to the Navy Divers, who transported it offshore to proceed with its safe destruction.

The entire operation required about six hours of intense activity, aimed not only at neutralizing the device but also at protecting the marine ecosystem and restoring full safety in the Marghera port area, ensuring the resumption of commercial and tourist traffic without further risks.

With this latest complex operation, the number of interventions conducted by the Folgore bomb disposal experts since the beginning of the year rises to 122, for a total of 250 devices destroyed in the provinces under their jurisdiction.
This further demonstration of efficiency and professionalism confirms the crucial role of the Armed Forces in ensuring the safety of the territory and citizens, even decades after the war events that marked our history.
